The Scottish Premier Football League has become the latest Professional Soccer League to publish their 2016/2017 season schedule created using GotSoccer Pro.

The SPFL joins the Costa Rican Unión de Clubes de Fútbol de la Primera División (UNAFUT), the Polish Ekstraklasa, the Welsh Premier League and the Liga Nacional de Fútbol Profesional de Honduras (Honduran National Professional Football League), who all recently published their 2016/2017 season schedules created using GotSoccer Pro.

“These are exciting times for GotSoccer”

“These are exciting times for GotSoccer ” said GotSoccer CEO, Gavin Owen-Thomas. “We have major clients in the US, but to sign deals with major leagues from five of the world’s top internationally ranked soccer nations really is a milestone event.”

All five leagues signed deals with GotSoccer earlier in the year to use the groundbreaking GotSoccer Pro software to create their league schedules for the upcoming 2016-2017 season.

The 2016/2017 SPFL season is without a doubt the most hotly anticipated season in years, as Rangers return to the Scottish top flight after a four year absence.

“The World of soccer is full of great rivalries and derbies, but only a handful can match the history, passion, excitement and mutual enmity of the SPFL’s ‘Old Firm’ derby between Celtic and Rangers.” said Gavin Owen-Thomas.

“People all over the world have been itching for the SPFL schedule to be released, so they can see when the first ‘Old Firm’ game will take place, and we are really proud and excited that the SPFL used GotSoccer Pro to create it”

Costa Rica and Honduras both competed in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, with Costa Rica making it all the way to the quarterfinals before narrowly losing out to Holland in a penalty shootout. While Poland recently made it to the quarterfinals, and Wales all the way to the semi-finals of the 2016 European Championship in France.

Although all of these nations are currently enjoying success with their national teams, they also want to improve their domestic game and give their competitions the opportunity to compete on the international stage with the world’s top leagues. Indeed, this is precisely one of the reasons UNAFUT and others have chosen to use GotSoccer Pro.

“GotSoccer Pro will help provide a better service to our members and improve the quality of our competitions.” said Raquel Hernandez, the General Manager of UNAFUT.

League scheduling, be it at the professional or amateur level, has always been a tedious affair involving spreadsheets, mountains of paper, mathematical formulas and above all a lot of time. “We used spreadsheets with limitations, but without being able to enforce our requirements and the process would take at least 3 months” said Raquel Hernandez.

GotSoccer is no stranger when it comes to scheduling soccer games, indeed our software schedules more games than anyone else in the world, scheduling close to a million league and tournament soccer games a year in the United States alone.

The GotSoccer Pro approach to scheduling

Born out of a collaboration with the Major League Soccer (MLS) to build a professional scheduling program, GotSoccer Pro allows a league to now take this long and laborious task and complete it with the simple click of a button. Indeed, GotSoccer Pro not only makes it simpler to create a schedule, it also creates a more efficient schedule by treating the problem as akin to the Travelling Salesman Problem – Given a list of cities and the distances between each pair of cities, what is the shortest possible route that visits each city exactly once and returns to the original city? – benefiting a league’s clubs, players and fans by saving time and money when traveling.

GotSoccer Pro also offers a range of groundbreaking features that any professional league serious about competing on the World Stage will want to use. One of these innovative features is the Schedule Comparison Tool which allows a league to compare their schedule with any other schedule around the world, be it soccer, basketball or even a non sporting event. This tool helps both the league and its TV partners to determine what times and dates are the best and most commercially attractive when scheduling a game, while also helping to prevent any conflicts with other sporting or non-sporting events.

“The ability to quickly generate numerous schedules and compare our schedule with the schedules of other leagues and competitions is what excites us the most about GotSoccer Pro” said Raquel Hernandez.

A system for the Pros packed with innovative features and technology

GotSoccer Pro is also the first and currently only cloud-based professional scheduling system in world, meaning a league can literally login from anywhere to adjust and work with their schedule.

It is these and a range of other innovative features that have convinced The Ekstraklasa and other professional leagues to use GotSoccer Pro. “We wanted to try something new, especially to take a closer look at American solutions, where the combination of sport, safety, TV, fans, entertainment works very well.” said Marcin Stefański, head of competition at Ekstraklasa.

GotSoccer is currently in talks with a range of major clients from around the world, and no doubt they will follow suit with the SPFL, the Ekstraklasa, the Welsh Premier League, UNAFUT and the Honduran National Professional Football League and modernise the way they create their league schedules.
